Choosing The Right Soccer Goal
August 8th, 2009 by Dom Marcas
Soccer goals are a great way to encourage children to turn off their video games and television sets and hit the outdoors. Children enjoy trying their luck kicking soccer balls into actual soccer goals.
But not every soccer goal is right for every occasion. You don’t want to overspend a high-end professional soccer goal, for instance, if all you need is a lightweight and cheaper recreational soccer goal.
Pro soccer goals are always 8 feet high and 24 feet wide. These are the top-of-the-line soccer goals, and are perfect for soccer teams and high-level players.
However, if you’re just trying to arrange some pick-up soccer games in your own backyard, a pro soccer goal may be a bit of overkill. For one thing, it’ll be far too large for young goalies to defend. That can cause some frustration that might cause young soccer players to quit the sport.
Secondly, pro-style soccer goals are far more costly than are recreational soccer goals. For no-pressure, fun games, a recreational soccer goal may be the right choice. These soccer goals are affordable, but are also built sturdily enough to handle some rough play.
Even better, recreational soccer goals come in a wide variety of styles and sizes. This means you can tailor your soccer-goal purchase to the talents of the children who will be using the goals. If you have players who are mostly inexperienced with the sport, you can purchase a smaller, less expensive recreational soccer goal. If you have players that are more skilled, you can find a recreational soccer goal that is larger and more durable.
You may also want to purchase indoor soccer goals. These are perfect if you live in a cold-weather state and you still want to hold pick-up soccer games. They allow you to play a quick soccer match even if it happens to be snowing or 5-below-zero outside.
Finding the right soccer goals for your situation doesn’t have to be a chore. It requires little more than some common sense. Just look at the type of players who’ll be using your soccer goals. And remember, it makes little sense to overpay for pro-style soccer goals when a less-expensive recreational soccer goal will serve your needs.
